Chakra Tools: Colours
The science of colour and how it affects our behaviour is not new. Natural
light (which includes the seven colours of the spectrum) is required for the
healthy function of human cells. By filtering natural light through your eyes
stimulates your pituitary gland, which in turn releases hormones correlating
with the organ of the same frequency. This is known as the science of syntonics,
and forms the basis of ‘colour therapy’, or Chromotherapy.
Colours, therefore, are known to resonate with your aura and persona to
heighten, lower or balance mood. Surrounding yourself with appropriate colours
thereby assists you to respond to situations from an empowered space.
This is a realm I have explored in my children's book, Selena's
Crystal Balls, A Magical Journey Through the Chakras. The protagonist,
Selena, explains how colours can make us feel at each stage through the chakra
journey, then prompts the reader to think about how s/he feels at each stage.
Children love this exercise -- not only do they get to connect with their
natural intuition, but they get to talk about it with adults who want to listen!
I've seen some really animated discussions between children and their teachers
as a result of these "trigger questions".
Colour therapy can entail the use of gemstones, candles, crystal prisms,
tinted eye-glasses, coloured lights, coloured waters, art and mandalas, guided
meditation, and even clothing and make-up. In the case of Selena's
Crystal Balls, I have incorporated visualisation, coloured images, and
intuition-building exercise of "scrying" into the crystal balls
featured throughout the story.
